For Agents

Lets an AI agent geolocate IPv4 and IPv6 addresses through ipapi, returning country, city, coordinates, timezone, and currency for single or bulk lookups.

Use for: I need the country and city for an IP address, Geolocate a visitor by their IP, Resolve the timezone for a given IP, Look up a batch of IP addresses at once

Not supported: Does not handle IP blocking, threat scoring, or DNS resolution. Use it for IP geolocation lookups only.

ipapi is an IP geolocation API that returns location data for any IPv4 or IPv6 address. A lookup provides country, region, city, latitude and longitude, timezone, currency, and connection details, and a bulk endpoint resolves many addresses in one request. A requester lookup returns the caller's own IP details.

Install Jentic One Beta

Connect the ipapi - IP Geolocation API to your agent

Jentic One is a self-hosted execution layer for AI agents. It lets your agent call the ipapi - IP Geolocation API, or any other public or private API you need. You set the rules, the agent never sees your credentials, and every call is logged.

Two steps, two machines. Install the instance in a safe environment, then register your agent from wherever it runs.

1

Step 1: Jentic One Host machine

# On the machine that will host your Jentic One instance:
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Fipapi.com%2Fmain" | sh
2

Step 2: Agent machine

# On the machine where your agent runs (keep this separate from the instance):
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Fipapi.com%2Fmain" | sh
jentic register # connects your agent to your Jentic One instance

Jentic One is in public beta. The setup above keeps your agent separate from the instance, which is what you want before using real credentials: an agent running as the same OS user as Jentic One can read its stored keys directly. Just evaluating? A single local install is fine to start. See the secure deployment guide for the tiers.

Capabilities

What an agent can do with ipapi - IP Geolocation API.

Geolocate any IPv4 or IPv6 address

Return country, region, city, and coordinates for an IP

Resolve timezone and currency details for an IP

Look up many IP addresses in a single bulk request

Identify the caller's own IP details

Use Cases

Patterns agents use ipapi - IP Geolocation API for, with concrete tasks.

★ Visitor geolocation

A web product needs to localize content or detect region from a visitor's IP. ipapi resolves an address to country, region, city, and coordinates along with timezone and currency, so an application can tailor language, pricing, or routing from a single lookup. The requester endpoint returns the caller's own IP when no address is supplied.

Look up an IP address and return its country, city, and timezone

Bulk IP enrichment

A data pipeline needs location fields for a list of IP addresses. ipapi accepts many addresses in one bulk request and returns the geolocation record for each, letting a team enrich logs or leads without a call per row. Results carry the same fields as a single lookup.

Submit a batch of IP addresses and return the country and city for each

AI agent location context

An AI agent handling a request can add location context from the caller's IP. The agent resolves the address to a region, timezone, and currency, and uses it to route or localize its next step, with the lookup gated behind the operation the operator has allowed. All calls are read-only.

Given a visitor IP, resolve its timezone and currency and return them for localization

Key Endpoints

3 endpoints — ipapi is an ip geolocation api that returns location data for any ipv4 or ipv6 address.

Why Jentic?

What agents get from Jentic-routed access to this vendor.

Setup

Wiring ipapi by hand means provisioning an access key, appending it as a query parameter on every call, and handling both single and bulk lookup shapes. Install Jentic One once, import the API from the Jentic API Directory, and store the credential once for your agent to reuse.

Permission scoping

Scope your agent to the lookup operations it needs, since every ipapi call is a read against the geolocation service. You decide which operations are callable, so an agent gets exactly the lookups you grant.

Credential isolation

Your ipapi access key is stored once, encrypted, by your own Jentic One instance and injected only at execution time. It never enters the agent's prompt, logs, or context.

Intent-based discovery

Agents find ipapi through Jentic's intent search: a query such as 'geolocate an IP address' matches the lookup operations, which the agent then calls with your stored credential.

FAQs

Specific to using ipapi - IP Geolocation API through Jentic.

What can an AI agent do with the ipapi API?

An agent can geolocate a single IPv4 or IPv6 address, resolve many addresses in a bulk request, and read the caller's own IP details, returning country, city, coordinates, timezone, and currency. It is a read-only geolocation lookup.

How does the ipapi API authenticate?

ipapi authenticates with an access key passed as a query parameter on each request. Jentic injects the key at execution time so it stays out of the agent's context.

Can I limit what my agent is allowed to do with the ipapi API?

Yes. Your Jentic One instance decides which operations an agent may call, so you can permit only the lookups a workflow needs. Because every ipapi call is read-only, an agent can never modify data through it.

What data does an ipapi lookup return?

A lookup returns country, region, city, latitude and longitude, timezone, currency, and connection details for an IPv4 or IPv6 address, with a bulk option for resolving many addresses at once.

How do I connect the ipapi API to my AI agent with Jentic?

Install Jentic One with its setup script, import the ipapi API from the Jentic API Directory, and store your access key once. Your agent can then call the lookup operations you allow.
